Please join your Community Senior Center of Bolton, Richmond & Huntington for a unique opportunity to learn about the Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh, VT. This will be the first of 3 programs about this Vermont treasure.
The first session is scheduled for Tuesday, November 16 at 1:30pm via Google Meets and will be:
Abolition and the Underground Railroad in Vermont
Join Tucker Foltz, Rokeby's Education Programs Manager, as he shares the story of two freedom seekers, Simon and Jesse, who came to stay with the Robinson family in Ferrisburgh in 1837. The Robinsons were radical abolitionists and Quaker perfectionists, among the earlier and most outspoken opponents of slavery in Vermont and the US. Most freedom seekers that came to Rokeby stayed for months and worked on the busy farm. We'll use their stories as a jumping-off point to discuss the wider history of abolition and the Underground Railroad in Vermont. Please contact martha@cscvt.org for the link.
