A mainstay in the Northeast Kingdom music scene, Chickweed draws audiences with its unique blend of upbeat folk, blues, jazz, rock, latin infused rhythms and three-part harmonies. While the group plays some familiar covers, most of its music is composed by lead vocalist and guitarist Linda Warnaar, a multi-instrumentalist and music educator who can be found locally playing drums with Tritium Well, trumpet with Caledonia Jazz, and teaching and performing with the women's drum group, the Drumatics. Linda also teaches Afro-Cuban dance and has lived and studied in Cuba.
Fran Forim, on upright bass, currently performs with several blue grass bands in the area, including Beg, Steal or Borrow. Fran and Linda originally played in the rock band Snakeroot. Abby Maier-Johnson adds percussion and vocals to the trio. You can find Abby leading bands of toddlers in rhymes and songs as the children's librarian at the Cobleigh Public Library. Supported in part by a grant from the Vermont Arts Council & the National Endowment for the Arts.
