Recall of $470,000 for Enosburgh's Reserve Fund May 20

Past event

A voters' petition to reverse the approval in March of Article 5 in the warning for Enosburgh Town School District's Annual meeting will be discussed and voted on in the EFHS High School Auditorium at 7 PM next Tuesday, May 20. At issue is whether all of the $447,500 unreserved fund balance at the end of the last fiscal year should be available to the School Board for unspecified capital projects or should some or all of it be used to reduce the cost of the coming year's school budget. As I understand it there are important capital improvements to make. On the other hand, the new tax rate could be reduced by as much as $.09, from $1.32 to $1.23, if all of this money was included in the 2013-2014 school budget. Anyone who pays property taxes in Enosburgh and votes there should attend this important meeting. This is local financing that is NOT prescribed from Montpelier or beyond, so we should make sure we do the best thing for our community.
