The annual Enosburg American Legion Veterans Day ceremony will expand to include a re-dedication of the refurbished Doughboy statue. The event takes place on November 11th at 11:00 a.m. in Lincoln Park on Main Street. A veteran's pancake breakfast will take place at the American Legion on Depot Street from 8:30-10:00. The event will include Honor Guard and Taps, Presentation of the Colors and Laying of the Wreaths, our National Anthem, plus words from invited speakers.

"We are really excited about this year's event," said Dan Cunningham, Commander of American Legion Post #42. "Our Veterans Day event was the perfect time to rededicate the Doughboy after its removal and months-long repair. We want to thank the community for their donations and also the Daughters of the American Revolution for their generous grant to make this happen."

Ninety one years ago- on November 11, 1930- thousands of people gathered in Enosburg Falls, to observe the dedication of the "The Spirit of the American Doughboy". The sculpture, a striding infantryman, and it was placed in Lincoln Park as a tribute to the 81 men of Enosburg Falls who served in World War I. Ernest Moore Viquesney was the spirited sculptor of the memorial. Less than 150 Viquesney doughboys have been accounted for in the United States, and only two are in Vermont. After years in the elements, the Doughboy was in need of major repairs. East Coast Copper in Colchester was hired to do the work and in August the statue was placed on a new pedestal and surrounded by an attractive new fence, also donated by community members and organizations.

"This couldn't have been done without leadership from the American Legion, a generous grant from the Daughters of the American Revolution and community donations for both the statue and the new fence that surrounds it," said Cindy Weed, President of the Enosburgh Historical Society. "This effort stands as a tribute to honor all of our veterans."
