Redistricting Listening Sessions (Public Meeting #1)

Past event
Nov 1, 2021, 6 to 8 PM

Burlington is beginning the process of reviewing populations in our voting wards. This process, known as redistricting, may result in changes to our current number of wards, ward boundaries, and number of representatives to City Council. Redistricting is required by the U.S. Constitution after the decennial U.S. Census, if the census results show that the populations of the districts or wards differ by more than approximately 10% (which is the case for Burlington this 2020 census). The goal of redistricting is equalizing the populations among different voting districts, in a non-partisan manner.

You can learn more about redistricting in Burlington and participate in the process by attending one of the three public meetings. The first public meeting is tonight, November 1, 6-8 pm, at Contois Auditorium. The Zoom link and calendar for the other two public meetings appear below.

I am on the redistricting committee, representing Ward 7. Each ward has one citizen representative who was elected during NPA meetings this fall.

Contact me as needed. My email is rbj@audioimagination.com .

I hope you can attend one of these public "listening sessions".

The Redistricting Committee will use public comments from these meetings, as well as future public surveys, to make suggestions on redistricting that City Council will consider, and which voters will need to approve (likely in November of 2022), and then for the legislature to approve for this City Council plan to be in place for Town Meeting Day 2023.
