Event November 1 5:30-7:30
Come join us for a Samhain ritual to remember the dead and thank the sleeping fields, forests, and gardens, at Bread and Puppet on Monday Nov 1 at 5:30 pm.
Samhain is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter. The souls of dead kin were thought to revisit their homes seeking hospitality, and a place was set at the table for them during a Samhain meal.
We will dress like death, make a procession through the orchard, fields, and forest, stopping along the way to honor the dead and sing to the trees, fields, and sky. We will end with a silent supper, a bonfire, and hot soup.
This is a participatory event, not a performance. Wear black or white.
Bring a offerings for the dead—food, drink, flowers, etc. Bring an instrument, if you like. Fiddles, hurdy gurdies and music boxes especially welcome. Bring a candle lantern. The event will take place rain or shine, and will involve a lot of walking, so dress accordingly.

• 6 pm: process through the fields
• 6:30 pm: silent supper, dance of death, offerings, songs, bonfire.
