Hello friends of the Barre Community Gardens:

There is one more pre-season gathering on Monday, see below for details. Then we are hands in the soil for our short but wonderful growing season!

Monday we are finalizing a Memorial Day press release, and window display for Women and Children First to outreach what we are up to. We are also completing the budget and wishlist needs for the gardens so they can be fulfilled through our connections in the community asap. Also we will decide on the group structure and decision making process.

Thanks to everyone who has participated in this timely gathering of the minds and hearts, especially to the ambassadors of each garden project and community supporters. We are an open grassroots group and hope to only grow.

Make note - during the Barre Heritage Festival in late July we will be coming together to celebrate our community garden efforts through our annual parade float (and possibly other garden based activities like a BBQ) - Saturday July 26th. In the late fall we plan to take part in a Barre Food First! summit about food security. Contact Emily Kaminsky about the summit.

Our name: Barre Community Gardens Alliance
Our mission is to increase food security in Barre through community based gardens. This will be accomplished by supporting these gardens through materials, labor, outreach, and coordinating our efforts through good communication and joint tasks.

Gardens currently involved include: Highgate Apartments, Green Acres Housing, Metro Way; Barre City Elementary and Middle School; and private gardens for growing free food, including Kris Pavek on Perry Street and Free Food For All, a farm in Orange that brings food for giveaway in Barre. The Hedding Methodist Church is also building raised beds this year.
