Below is the annual letter to members:
Dear Friends of Lincoln Sports:
Another year has passed, and Lincoln Sports remains committed to providing outdoor recreational spaces for the community which seem so much more important these days!
The effects of COVID on our normal operations reared its ugly head and forced us to cancel camp again this summer. It was not that we thought we couldn't run camp safely. But, like so many other businesses these days, we could not find applicants that were qualified and able to commit to the dates we needed to make camp safe and fun. We apologize to families that were affected by the cancellation and hope they had ample time to find other opportunities.
However, we did get a huge project completed this year which has been in the works for several years: the tennis court resurfacing. The court has always been used quite heavily in the summer months, but it was falling into disrepair. This year, with the help of a grant from The Vermont Community Foundation, the court is now in great condition. We had pickle ball lines painted on the court and rackets are available for checkout at the library.
Lincoln Sports hosted a potluck dinner and pickle ball demo day this summer. Although not a large crowd, those who attended enjoyed learning the game, eating some delicious food and visiting with friends and neighbors.
Coming soon is a new shed to hold sports equipment and other supplies needed for the property and activities. The old shed on the side of the firehouse is on its way out and a beautiful new shed will be installed on the field.
Between the court resurfacing and the shed, we have spent over $14,000 this summer alone. We try to keep our request from the town low each year which means we count on donations from the community to allow us to make these improvements. If you are in a position to help and you see us as a worthy place for your hard-earned money, we truly thank you. Donations can be returned in the envelope provided.
Lincoln Sports is always looking for more people to join the organization, either as an officer or a member. Whether you are a life-long resident or new to town, young or old, with kids or without, we are happy to have more people involved. It's a great low-key way to contribute to the community. Come to the annual meeting and see what we're all about.
