Vinyasa yoga is a therapeutic, healing practice for the mind, body and spirit. We begin with the chanting of OM. The aim of the class is to build heat, an internal fire, to cleanse the body, quiet the mind and enhance energy and concentration (dharana.) Vinyasa is a flowing sequence of postures (asanas) where each pose is connected with breath. Ujjayi breath is emphasized. The practice promotes strength, flexibility and balance. Proper alignment is a focus throughout the class. There is an intelligent mix of standing poses followed by seated asanas to include
forward bending, twisting, back bending, arm balancing and inversions.
Class closes with savasana (resting pose.) In learning this traditional practice, you will find yourself feeling stronger, and you may find that it deepens your understanding of who you are, helps you feel more present and in the moment, and brings a new joy and peace to your everyday life.
