E-Bike Lending Library Coming to the Islands & Demo Day this Saturday!

Would an e-bike make your life easier? Find out for free! Local Motion's E-Bike Lending Library will be in South Hero from 10/9 through 11/12. Community members will be able to check out an e-bike from the Worthen Library for three days at a time to find out how these bikes can replace car trips and transform their daily transportation needs. Or come by this Saturday to give it a quick test spin - between 10am to 1pm.

As part of the Vermont Council on Rural Development's (VCRD) Climate Catalyst Leadership Program, Jenn Wood organized this opportunity for the Champlain Islands. "I am thrilled to share this program with my fellow Islanders to see the opportunities for e-bikes in our community," says Wood.

The fleet includes a variety of bikes at different price points, including a cargo bike with a rear rack and a standard commuter bike, all with an electric assist that helps riders get around with less effort and scale hills that previously seemed impossible.

"South Hero is a biking town," said Keagan Calkins, Worthen Library Director. "We're so excited to be hosting these e-bikes, to give people a chance to try them out and see how they could incorporate them into day to day life. Also, because E-bikes are just so much fun!"

E-bikes are a transportation option that is becoming more familiar and necessary, and the goal of this program is to introduce Vermonters to how they can be incorporated into everyday life and replace car trips. From commuting to work to picking up groceries and carrying kids to school, e-bikes provide an extra boost of power that make miles feel shorter and cargo feel lighter.

The safety of customers and staff is our top priority, so Local Motion and Lending Library volunteers are adhering to all COVID-19 related government safety regulations and recommendations. The bikes are cleaned and disinfected between users, and masks for staff and customers are required at pick-up.
