We will meet on October 15th at 3:00 in City Hall
Agenda for 10/15/21:
1. Follow-up from discussion of increasing membership (Samn)
2. Follow-up from discussion with Casella (Steve)
3. Other business
Meeting minutes from 8/20/21 ( meeting of 9/17/21 cancelled)
The second meeting of the task force
Attending: John Lepage, Steve Micheli, Samn Stockwell
Discussion:
We discussed 4 questions from the original charge.
a. Would a different trash system improve the appearance of the city?
No, it would not change human behavior. People who are irresponsible would continue to be irresponsible. The police don't have the capacity to go after people littering.
Action step: none
b. Would it reduce city costs for hauling? Possibly if the combined volume of the city, state, landlords, CHA, businesses and landlords was great enough, a hauler would reduce rates.
Action step: Steve will contact Casella's & Myers to see if this would be the case.
c. Would it be worth added administrative costs? We can't know that yet. It depends upon the system we would be in place (billing v tax) and the amount of possible savings. We need at least B answered first.
Action Step: none at this time.
d. Would it improve recycling/composting? Probably not: see A above. Education might help.
We also discussed the need to enlarge the committee, and we agreed 2 more members would be helpful.
Action step: Samn will approach potential members and Lucas.
Update: Samn talked with Lucas and request for 2 additional members will go on the city website along with a page about the Trash Task Force.
