The Greensboro Free Library invites you to view the night sky at Caspian Lake Beach through a newly purchased telescope. This library lending telescope was purchased through a special program outfitting telescopes for library lending through from the Vermont Astronomical Society. We are fortunate to live in a place with dark skies and good star viewing.
Join us at Caspian Lake public beach area on Thursday October 7th at 6pm to learn about this new telescope, how it works, and to view the night sky with local astronomers Brad Vietje from the Northeast Kingdom Astronomy Foundation and Paul Fixx. This is just before International Library Telescope Observation Week and we will be able to (hopefully) see Venus, the moon, Saturn's rings, and moons of Jupiter! Sunset is at 6:18pm that night so we are hoping to gather with some daylight to learn about the telescope. Feel free to bring your dinner to eat while listening if that is helpful. Once dark we will take turns looking through the telescope at the night sky.
This telescope will be available for lending from the GFL after the event. It is free & open to all (adults and kids). You do not need to attend the class to borrow the telescope and there are clear use and care instructions on it. Thank you to the Greensboro Association and the Vermont Astronomical Society for your generous support in making this opportunity possible.
