RENEWABLE AND FOSSIL FUEL ENERGY, CLIMATE CHANGE, AND SUSTAINABILITY: WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE AND WHAT CAN WE DO?

Are you worried by the increasingly severe and erratic weather patterns that are occurring here and all over the world? Do you understand the link between our patterns of energy consumption and our carbon footprint, and how this increasingly large carbon footprint is driving these shifting weather patterns? Do you want to know how we can change our daily energy habits in order to become part of the solution?

The Warren Public Library will be sponsoring a series of topic-driven discussion sessions to focus on how we can all make changes in our lifestyle that, collectively, can begin to turn this tide around. The discussions will be based on course offerings from the Northwest Earth Institute (www.nwei.org/). An informal introductory meeting will be held on Monday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Warren Public Library (413 Main Street, Warren). At that meeting, we will explore together which of the many topics that the Northwest Earth Institute offers will be of the most interest for us to pursue as a group. If there is enough interest to form more than one discussion group, several discussion groups can be formed.

Richard Czaplinski has conducted many informational sessions such as these and started dozens of discussion groups around the state while working with the Vermont Earth Institute. At our introductory, informational meeting on May 19, Richard will explain how these courses work and what the course choices are. Suggested courses for exploratory discussion include:

1. Change by Degrees: Addressing the Climate Challenge

2. Seeing Systems: Peace, Justice, and Sustainability

3. Reconnecting with the Earth

4. Sustainable Systems at Work

If you’re interested in attending please reply to Anne Dillon, Program Director, Warren Public Library (programs@warrenlibrary.com/496-3656) or to Richard Czaplinski (rczaplinski@madriver.com/496-3437). Also, please be sure to tell any of your friends and acquaintances who might be interested in hearing about these courses!
