Poet, poet-for-hire, and Seven Days contributor BENJAMIN ALESHIRE and King Arthur baker and memoirist MARTIN PHILIP will read in Calais this Sunday, September 26, at 3 O'Clock for the second reading of Wrought & Written: WORDS OUT LOUD, an event of Art at the Kent's 20/20 Hindsight exhibit.

Please arrive a titch early to allow for parking, procotol, and selecting your spot in the many pews upstairs or down in the spacious and airy still-unplugged 1823 meetinghouse.

A bit about each presenter:

BENJAMIN ALESHIRE grew up in Cuttingsville, Vermont. For many years he made his living by traveling the world and composing poems for strangers in the street on a manual typewriter. His work has appeared in The Times of London, El Mundo, Iowa Review, Lit Hub, and on television in the United States, China, and Spain. Ben is the recipient of a Bread Loaf Writers' Conference writer-waiter scholarship, a James Merrill Poetry Fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center, and a Goldwater Writing Workshop Fellowship from NYU. Currently he serves as a contributing editor for Green Mountains Review and is a freelance book reviewer for Seven Days.

MARTIN PHILIP is a baker and author. His book, Breaking Bread: A Baker's Journey Home in 75 Recipes (HarperCollins, 2017) is a Wall Street Journal Best Seller and has received numerous honors, including the award for Best Cookbook of 2018 by the Book Industry Guild of New York (BIGNY), the 2018 Vermont Book Award, and Grand Prize Winner at the 2017 New England Book Festival. A native of the Arkansas Ozarks, he is a sought-after voice in the world of bread and baking. He is a MacDowell Fellow and a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory. Martin lives in Vermont with his wife Julie Ness and their three children.
