VOLUNTEERS WANTED
Help clean up our beloved and historic cemetery, located right here on Main Street. As you may know, this cemetery has fallen into great neglect and disrepair. The stones there, which were once beautiful pieces of granite, slate, and the finest white marble, are now covered with black stains, moss, lichen, and other sorts of biological growth from decades of neglect. Certainly, allowing this to happen is a disservice to our community and to our dead. The stones date from the late 18th century to the 20th century, however most of the stones are from antebellum-era America (Pre-American Civil War). Among those buried, we have two U.S. Congressmen, as well as multiple veterans from the American War of Independence, one of which, John Hall, was killed in the Battle of Hubbardton in 1777. It is our solemn duty as the people of the Town of Castleton, and as Americans, to make sure that these stones lest be forgotten. Please join me in helping to restore and preserve the legacy of Castleton's ancestors and our Revolutionary heroes. If these stones are not addressed soon, permanent damage will take its toll on our once-beautiful stones.
This event is endorsed by the Town of Castleton, Castleton University, and American Legion Post #50.
If you plan on attending please wear closed-toe shoes.
