The Estey organ in the York Street Meeting House, installed in 1920, will lead off a tour featuring three venerable organs in the town of Lyndon this coming Sunday, September 19.
The tour, sponsored by the Vermont Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, aims to celebrate some of the old instruments still rendering good service, mostly in churches. (The York Street Meeting House was built as the First Congregational Church of Lyndon in 1828-9 and became the Meeting House in 2009 when the repair and restoration of the building began.)
The tour begins at the Meeting House at 3 p.m., where the featured Estey is a reed organ built in Brattleboro. Bruce Stevens, an expert organist from Wells River, will demonstrate and speak about the Estey, which he restored in 2010.
At 4 and 5 p.m., the tour will visit the pipe organs in St. Elizabeth's Church in Lyndonville and the Baptist Church in Lyndon Center.
Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the sites featured on the tour. There is no charge for admission and refreshments will be served after the third stop.
