Join the Cabot Conservation Committee in a workshop on common invasive plants on September 18 in the Willey Building, 3rd floor, 9 am – noon. Invasive plants are not native to our environment – they displace native species, reduce native wildlife habitat, and reduce forest health and productivity. Washington County Forester, Robert Nelson, will introduce the more common invasives such as Japanese knotweed, shrub honeysuckle, Asiatic bittersweet, common buckthorn, Japanese barberry, giant hogweed, wild chervil, and wild parsnip. We will learn about identification and ways to prevent or control them and a new initiative to map invasives in town. After a classroom session we will take a walk in Cabot Village to see some of these invasives.
Refreshments will be served. Cabot residents and residents from surrounding towns are welcome. Masks will be required. RSVP is appreciated.
