"The Real Joan": A Discussion
Unity Hall at The Congregational Church of Middlebury, 30 N. Pleasant Street
Join the Opera Company of Middlebury for a conversation with Middlebury College Professor Louisa Burnham as she speaks about the life of the real Joan of Arc. Dr. Burnham has explored the life and times of Joan of Arc, who was born in the northeast of France and rallied French soldiers to drive English troops from her country. She was captured in 1430 and burned at the stake a year later on May 30, 1431, at what is estimated to have been 19 years of age.
This event is free to attend, and all are invited. Everyone wishing to attend is asked to wear a mask and be vaccinated. Middlebury Community Television will record the discussion for later broadcast.
This discussion is a companion to upcoming performances of THE MAID OF ORLEANS, Tchaikovsky's grand opera about Joan of Arc, from Oct. 1-9 at the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury. Directed by Douglas Anderson, to be performed in Russian with English supertitles, and full orchestra conducted by Michael Sakir. Details at ocmvermont.org
