Neighbors,

The City Council will be meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021 in Contois Auditorium. The meeting will be in person. The meeting will be streamed live at: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLljLFn4BZd2PwCge7lNoKug676jIf_iUA. Public forum will be held between 7:30 to 9:30.

The Council's deliberative agenda includes the following: (a) a presentation on continuing to reinvest in our infrastructure from the Administration; (b) a presentation is on the 2020 initial census data summary; (c) a resolution requesting that $1.795 million of our ARPA funds be directed to our ongoing health response, to create a temporary tax relief fund to bridge the gap in state relief that property owners get which is based on their valuation as of April 1, and to fund a water main replacement; (c) a communication from DPW regarding a design amendment to the Champlain Parkway; (d) a resolution authorizing the issuance of revenue bonds to finance our Net Zero Energy goals, to finance electrical infrastructure upgrades and to encourage energy savings. If the resolution passes, it will go to the voters for approval in November; (e) a resolution endorsing the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

This proposed resolution seeks to inject the Council into the complicated and divisive politics of the Middle East. I have heard from hundreds of Burlington residents and thousands nationwide. Those communications have highlighted the intent of the BDS movement to destroy Israel.

I will not support this resolution which only divides us and will not bring about peace; (f) a proposed ordinance change seeking to expand City-wide changes to the minimum and maximum parking requirements; and (g) a resolution regarding legal resident local elections voting and a referral to the Charter Change Committee to place a question on the March 2022 ballot regarding this issue.
