Join the Wards 2 & 3 Neighborhood Planning Assembly for a SPECIAL MEETING to vote for ward representatives on the city's Ad Hoc Redistricting Committee: 6:30 pm Tuesday, Sept. 14 via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85860854764 (and also in-person in the Queen City Room on the third floor of City Hall - please note: this is a VERY small room and we strongly encourage Zoom participation).
Here's why it's important: 2020 US Census data will likely show population changes across Burlington. The City Council relies on census data to draw the boundaries of our wards, trying to equalize the number of residents in a ward. If there are sufficient population shifts, the boundaries will need to be reviewed and possibly redrawn. This is also an opportunity for residents to express their opinions about the current ward boundaries, the composition of the city council, and other topics related to representation.
The City Council wants an "open, transparent, nonpartisan and independent process" if faced with redistricting, so it has requested the formation of an ad hoc committee made up of individuals who represent each of the wards. This committee will solicit resident and report to the City Council with its findings. The Council will use this feedback to guide its redistricting plan.
If you're interested in representing Ward 2 or 3 on the committee, please email wards2and3npa@googlegroups.com by Sept. 13 expressing your interest in and qualifications for representing Ward 2 or 3 on the committee and how you would ensure broad outreach and a diversity of voices in the process.
