The Cornwall Congregational Church on Route 30 will be joining churches all across the country to ring their bells as a tribute and memorial to the ones who died on Sept 11, 2001, and as a memorial to the men and women in uniform killed in the ongoing war against terrorism. Church bells will be rung at the following times on Saturday, September 11th.
8:46 a.m.: In remembrance of those who died when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center in NYC.
9:03 a.m.: In remembrance of those who died when hijackers deliberately crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
9:37 a.m.: In remembrance of those who died when hijackers deliberately crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon, near Washington, D.C.
10:03 a.m.: In remembrance of those passengers on United Airlines Flight 93 who died as they tried to seize control of the aircraft from the hijackers. The plane crashed into an empty field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
12:00 noon. In remembrance of all those lost to acts of terrorism.
Each ring sequence will be followed by one minute of silence.
If you wish to join the church bell ringers, bring your own handbell to ring on the front steps of the church at any of the above times, or light a small candle as a tribute. (Candles provided.)
