AN EVENING WITH THE BENGSONS, FRI., SEPT. 10 @ 7:00 PM

TOWN HALL THEATER

An intimate performance of storytelling through song. Town Hall Theater proudly presents An Evening with The Bengsons, featuring the married composing and performing powerhouse indie-folk duo, Abigail and Shaun Bengson. Based in New York City and Vermont, The Bengsons have performed across the country and around the world. Their video, The Keep Going Song has been viewed over 4 million times, resonating as an anthem of perseverance, through the pandemic and otherwise.

An Evening with the Bengsons is an intimate performance of storytelling through song. "The powerful impact of this song cycle by The Bengsons comes from these simple celebrations of limitations received and overcome, moving beyond negativity and sadness to climb toward joy and light," says theater critic Rick Pender. "Our memoir pieces need to reflect what's going on in our own hearts and bodies as we process the world," Abigail said.

"A luminous musical memoir"—New York Times critic Ben Brantley

SEARCHING FOR TIMBUCTOO FILM SCREENING & TALK BACK

THURS., SEPT 9 @ 6PM

Accompanying the Jackson Gallery "Dreaming of Timbuctoo" exhibit, THT presents a film by Paul Miller called "Searching for Timbuctoo." This hour-long new documentary will screen at Town Hall Theater on Thursday, September 9 at 6pm. Suggested donation $10.

In the mid-1800s, abolitionist and real estate baron Gerrit Smith devised a "scheme of justice and benevolence" that he hoped would provide refuge to black families. The film, featuring historian Amy Godine, dramatizes the quest to reconstruct the nearly forgotten history of that refuge, the pre-Civil War Adirondack settlement of African-American homesteaders known as "Timbuctoo." Featured voices in the film include civil rights activist Dr. Alice Green, Congressman Paul Tonko, former Sierra Club president Aaron Mair, and WAMC's David Guistina.

Paul Miller is an independent writer, filmmaker and photographer based in upstate New York, who has worked for national shows and networks, including The History Channel, National Geographic Channel, PBS, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. There will be a talkback with the filmmaker immediately following the screening.

THE ALMENDROS ALBUM RELEASE PARTY

THURS., SEPTEMBER 16 @ Marble Works 6-8:30PM

On Thursday, September 16, THT and Neighbors Together present a free outdoor show at Middlebury's Marble Works. Starting at 6pm, enjoy the debut performance of the Almendros, and their album "All Over the Place," produced by The Grift's Clint Bierman.

As the title "All Over the Place" suggests, the songs are a lively mix of styles, from rock and country-rock to reggae, ska and world music influences. Vocals are shared among Ryan, Pelletier, Liz Cleveland of Middlebury and Naunau Belu, a Middlebury resident originally from Madagascar.

All the players on "All Over the Place" are veterans of other area bands. Along with bassist Pete Ryan (the Horse Traders, Deb Brisson & the Hay Burners) and guitarists Bierman and Pelletier (Horse Traders and Hay Burners), they include Belu (Gumbo Yaya) on guitar and keyboards, John Wallace of Cornwall (Horse Traders, Hay Burners and other groups) on drums, Doug Wilhelm of Weybridge (Hay Burners and Avant-Garde Dogs) on congas, harmonica and percussion, and Cleveland (LC Jazz and Avant-Garde Dogs) on vocals. Joining the group on trumpet and vocals for the Sept. 16 show is Kemi Fuentes-George.

This show is FREE thanks to a grant from Neighbors Together.
