Get your feet wet and help keep Montpelier Rivers clean and beautiful!
The Friends of the Winooski River is holding its annual Montpelier river cleanup on September 11, 2021 from 8:30 - 11:30.
We'll be collecting trash from the riverbed as well as the riverbank, so come prepared to get wet and dirty. It feels great to be in the water once you get in, and finding and removing trash is much more fun and rewarding than you might expect! We often find interesting relics from the past and weird items from the present.
What to bring: heavy-duty gloves that can get wet, old sneakers or teva-like sandals (not wellies -they just fill with water), a 5-gallon bucket if you have one. Used gloves and extra buckets will be provided. Protection from the elements including sun, rain, and ticks is recommended. The cleanup will happen rain or shine with the exception of severe weather or high water levels.
We'll meet in front of City Hall for coffee, bagels, and a brief (socially distant) safety talk before dividing up to walk or carpool to different sites around town.
In addition to volunteers we're in need of canoes we can borrow to transport the trash we collect.
