Green Corn Ceremonials
Saturday, September 4th, 10-4 at Vermont Indigenous Heritage Center at the Ethan Allen Homestead in Burlington, VT.
Throughout the day, Abenakis will be doing their traditional dancing, singing and drumming to mark the ripening of the corn crop. Expect other activities as we recreate a pre 1840 atmosphere. Crafting, cooking, atlatls, archery, musketry, cannon fire as well as a trader's tent with unique sale items. We have a great museum display of genuine ancient Abenaki artifacts as well as some artisanry and our gardens are doing well. Guided tours of museum and grounds is available. Guests are encouraged to ask questions about the traditions. Alnobaiwi is primarily an educational program dedicated to the preservation of Abenaki cultural heritage. https://www.alnobaiwi.org/vihc-history
Indigenous people and friends will celebrate the Green Corn Ceremony in the village at precisely 12 Noon. All are welcome to observe, aware that it is a sacred event. No filming or photos.
