On Saturday, 18 September from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m., Windham Solid Waste Management District will provide a winter composting workshop at the Halifax Community Hall. We generate food scraps all year, so it makes sense to compost year-round. Winter composting will help you to meet your spring garden compost needs! Workshop topics will include tips for composting food scraps and discouraging wildlife from your compost; autumn preparation for winter composting; pros and cons of different compost systems (bins, tumblers, and piles); where to put your compost area; tools, insulation, and other tips; winter care of compost; indoor composting; and other options to keep food scraps out of the landfill. The workshop includes a demonstration of compost tumblers, bins, and tools.
This event, cosponsored by the Halifax Conservation Commission, is free and open to all. The workshop will be outside of the historic Halifax Community Hall, located at 20 Brook Road in West Halifax. The Hall will be open to use the bathroom, which is wheelchair accessible
The rain date is Saturday, 25 September from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. If rain seems likely on the afternoon of 18 September, check the Commission's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/halifaxvtconserv/) for updates.
