Two years ago I was lucky enough to see Magdalen, a one woman show written by Julie Kline and magnificently acted by Erin Layton at Phantom Theater in Warren. I remember thinking that this show and this acting was one of the finest productions I'd ever seen. The play is about the women and girls who were incarcerated in the Laundries (euphemism for Catholic prison) of Ireland as slave laborers in the early to mid-twentieth century. It is a heavy, powerful play- but as Janet Hubbard wrote in the Valley Reporter review, once secrets are unearthed, there is space for hope. I was moved to my core and leapt to my feet at the end with awe and admiration. Now you have the opportunity to experience this show Friday, August 20 and Saturday, August 21 at Phantom Theater, in Warren at 8pm. No reservations- first come, first seated. Masks are required.
