Why write? For one, writing equips us with communication and thinking skills. For another, writing expresses who we are as people. Writing also makes our thinking both visible and permanent. Writing can also foster our ability to explain and refine our ideas both to ourselves as well as others.
I know of a writer, who after retiring from teaching HS science for over 40 years, writes to remember. He doesn't want to lose the richness of the stories of his kids and the other characters who populated his life for that time.
I know of another writer who writes to process her emotions and feelings and get clarity on who she is.
There are many reasons to write and I invite you to come join the Writers' Wertfrei group this coming Saturday, August 21st from 10-noon at the Waterbury Public Library. If the weather is good we will meet outside at the picnic table in the Library's garden. If not, come inside the Steele Room. All are welcome, whether you consider yourself a "writer" or not. We all write.
