Neighbors,
Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 18th, from 7-8PM, there will be an informational session on the City Council's resolution concerning the creation of an ad hoc committee to provide input to the City Council on what (if any) direction to take on redistricting the City. One committee member from each Ward will be appointed at upcoming NPA meetings.
This resolution comes as a consequence of the 2020 census. This is an important discussion that merits serious deliberation, and the City Council wants the whole community, with representatives from each Ward, to initiate the conversation.
The meeting will be by Zoom, with an in-person component to take place in the Bushor Room in City Hall to satisfy conditions for an Open Meeting. Details are in the agenda below.
Resolution sponsors will explain the resolution, its purpose, expectations, and timeline. We are planning ample time for questions and answers on the resolution. Please understand this will not be a forum to discuss the merits of one districting model or another – that work is reserved for the committee once it is seated. The eight Ward representatives will be selected by vote at the next meeting of each NPA.
We urge all residents to participate in this informational meeting and consider being on the ad hoc committee. For those who can't tune in or show up on the 18th, the meeting will be recorded and available through Town meeting TV or on the CEDO NPA website.
The Resolution can be found here: https://go.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/files/C4HNWP61F20D/$file/Signed%20CC%20Re[...]pdf
