The "8 Cuerdas Duo" of soprano Sarah Cullins and guitarist Daniel Gaviria appears Saturday August 21 in the airy, spacious barn at the Island Arts Center.
Whether recreating a soulful Argentinian Milonga, bringing out the percussiveness of the Latin American Chacarera, or drawing on the intense passion of Flamenco guitarist, the Duo leads much of their classical repertoire into the World Music realm, creating a wide variety of sounds and atmospheres http://www.8cuerdas.com.

19th Century American Charm in Song and Dance Aug. 29!

Singers soprano Allison Steinmetz and tenor Cameron Steinmetz appear with keyboardist Artis Wodehouse on harpsichord, Sunday August 29 at 4 pm in Grand Isle. The couple will sing popular tunes from 19th century America and recreate two iconic social dances of the period, the waltz and the polka. Accompanying the Steinmetzes will be keyboardist Artis Wodehouse, who will play on an 1864 foot-pump melodeon, a revival bentside spinet harpsichord, and the modern piano.

The Dixie Six, Silent Auction and Book Sale!

Join Island Arts for an outside evening of jazzy music, plus you may put in your bids at a fabulous Silent Auction or grab a good read at the Book Sale by donation! Auction items feature gift certificates to local eateries and shops in addition to large items such as a Char-Broil Oil-less Turkey fryer and 20-piece accessory kit. Funds raised from the Silent Auction and Book Sale will help support Island Arts events and youth arts scholarships.
The Dixie Six is well-loved by Island Arts' audiences. A Vermont band that is well-known in the greater Burlington music scene, the six musicians focus on the sound and repertoire of Louis Armstrong's All Stars of the 1950's and 1960's. Though retaining a traditional Dixie feel, the band's updated rhythm section gives a new energy to New Orleans classics. The Dixie Six players will be Charlie MacFayden, piano; Peter Williams, bass; Dave Whittle, drums; Phil Mead, trombone; Tony Pietricola, clarinet; and Bill Wicker on the cornet.
