The duo performs audience favorites from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Brazil, Argentina and Spain, interspersed with poetry and stories about the music. Familiar composers, such as Villa-Lobos, Piazzolla, and Rodrigo, will transport listeners to the gardens of the Alhambra and the steamy streets of Buenos Aires. Other songs will highlight the virtuosity of the Spanish guitar or the versatility of the soprano. Vermont soprano Sarah Cullins and Colombian guitarist Daniel Gaviria met in the Andes Mountains of Bogota, Colombia. As the duo 8 Cuerdas, they bring Latin American and Spanish song to the Green Mountains. Sarah and Daniel joyfully combine classical training with their love of traditional Latin American and Spanish rhythms, exploring the music of Latin America and Spain's Iberian Peninsula. Named for the eight strings (cuerdas) that unify this husband and wife musical team, the duo has performed with Spruce Peak Performing Arts, St. Paul's Cathedral Arts, Pentangle Arts, Stowe Performing Arts, Fisk Farm Pro Artist Series and others.
