Artful Streets @ August Gallery Walk

Past event
Aug 6, 2021, 12 to 8 PM

Artful Streets invites everyone to be part of the art-making and sharing at Brattleboroʻs Gallery Walk. Through local collaborations we are creating experiences of participatory arts and social engagement, designed to be widely inclusive. This months theme is GAME ON! Check out the list below of the Artful Streets Stations sprinkled around town on Friday, August 6 from 5-8pm.

Chess Alley @Harmony Tunnel
Hosted by Brooks Memorial Library
During the pandemic, are you among the many who binge-watched The Queen's Gambit? Scored a new chess board? Or just upped your game? Come down to "Chess Alley" as a beginner to a professional and find a game. Hosted by the Brooks Memorial Library, we'll have teachers and players at all levels. Play, learn new strategies and even watch a few pros compete.

Play + Eat Like a Squirrel @Whetstone Path
Hosted by BEEC + Brattleboro Food Co-op
Let squirrels teach us how to move and eat well! These sweet critters love to play and forage for healthy snacks, tasty for humans too. The Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center will show videos of baby squirrels at play, inspiring games for us to play. The Food Co-op will teach us how to make tasty squirrel snacks with nuts and berries.

The Brattleboro Trivia Show @Brattleboro History Center + Museum
Hosted by Brattleboro Historical Society
Show off your Brattleboro Brains with local historians. What is the Abenaki name for this area? Do you know what used to be thrown at our 4th of July parade? Where was the original Brooks Library located? Come see exhibits of photos old & new. Share your trivial knowledge and WIN TREATS! brattleborohistoricalsociety.org

Giant Games @Elliot Street
Hosted by a couple of Roller Skating Game Hosts
We've got some classic games super-sized! Bring your "game on" self to Elliot Street for Giant Twister, Checkers, and Bananagrams. We'll also have Cornhole! Can you keep up with our game hosts on roller skates? Game on!

Games from Around The World @Harmony Park
Hosted by a couple of School for International Training Hosts
The fastest way to make friends is to play a game. Watch young kids. They don't sit around talking to one another for long before they start teaching each other games. At this station we invite you to bring a game from your part of the world, whether it is played with sounds, hands, cards, a board, a ball or any other props. Come learn, play or teach a game and meet a new friend!

XOX! Share the Love: Artful Tic-Tac-Toe @The Museum Lawn
Hosted by Brattleboro Museum + Art Center
Lynn Herring's reengineered tic-tac-toe game is designed to make America relate again. Organic crooked-shaped, brightly-colored wood Xs and Os and uses a complex, "wonky-shaped" game board. XOX! Share the Love brings people together to set aside their differences and relate playfully with each other. Lynn Herring will give an artist talk at 6 p.m. in the Museum.
