On August 14, the Vermont Suffrage Centennial Alliance (VSCA) brings Annette Gordon-Reed, historian, Harvard professor, Pulitzer-prize and National Book Award author to Vermont for a two-hour (3–5 pm) event on the State House Lawn. The program will coalesce around four themes: immigrant voting, enfranchisement, queer inclusion, and municipal voting. VSCA will employ music, land acknowledgement and dedication, speeches, and art to expand our understanding and appreciation of the experiences of marginalized communities in obtaining and exercising their right to vote.
In addition, Annette Gordon-Reed will do a reading from her new book, On Juneteenth, at 12:30 p.m. at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier.
