The annual "Remembering Hiroshima Peace Walk" and ceremony on August 6th will begin at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library at 6:45pm and proceed along State St. to Montpelier High School. Participants will carry origami peace cranes, created and donated by a Japanese woman whose family were survivors of the nuclear bombing. At 7:15, the adjusted EST time of the 1945 blast, the bells of Christ Church will toll seventy six times
to honor the 76th commemoration of the attack. At the conclusion of the walk at the high school, we will share our reflections on peace making and our commitments to end war and live a life of peace. Group singing on the subject of peace, led by a local musician , will be welcomed. The ceremony will conclude with participants sending flowers afloat on the Winooski River, as symbolic of their personal vow to work for peace and end all war.
