Celebrating The 101st Anniversary of Women Gaining the Right to Vote
Since we were unable to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote last year in mid-August, a group of Bethel citizens are planning to celebrate the 101st Anniversary, in 2021 at the Bethel Town Hall, on August 14th and 15th. The Bethel Historical Society and the Bethel Public Library will also participate. At the same time there will be a sale of books about women and a collection of other Bethel memorabilia for sale. The event will be a fundraiser for the Bethel Community Forward Festival which is happening on October 2nd, 2021.
The event will recognize women, some well-known, others less well-known, in a display at the Town Hall from 10 to 4 each day. It will highlight women's lives, with Bethel women featured as a large part of the display. Topics will include working toward and gaining suffrage, war-time service, local and state politics, and interesting and challenging day-to-day stories. Participants will prepare displays about a woman, or women, that they respect and admire, and be present to interact with visitors to the exhibit.
If you would like to participate in honoring a woman, famous or not, that you respect and admire and want others to know about, contact Mary Floyd at 234-9515 or maryryanfloyd@gmail.com.
