Beloved author Jane Yolen and her daughter Heidi E.Y. Stemple will read from their new picture book "I Am the Storm" at the Village Square Booksellers on Sunday, August 1 at 11 a.m. Their book addresses weather emergencies with warm family stories of finding joy in preparedness and resilience. In the face of our shifting climate, young children everywhere are finding themselves subject to unfamiliar and often frightening experiences. The authors' honest reassurance leaves readers with the message: nature is powerful, but you are powerful too. This book is a nominee for this year's Red Clover Award.
Heidi E.Y. Stemple has published more than 25 books and numerous short stories and poems for children. Her Ready-to-Read children's book "Two Cans for Toucan" will be on bookstore shelves soon. Jane Yolen is the author of over 400 books for children and adults. She received the Caldecott Medal for "Owl Moon."
Heidi and Jane heard about the Bellows Falls StoryWalk featuring "I Am the Storm" through social media and decided to make the trip to town to see it. A "Storywalk" is an invitation to take a short stroll with friends and family while reading a picture book. This StoryWalk begins at "Hetty Green Park" and ends on the front lawn of the library. The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Vermont. It will be on the grounds of the park until Thursday, August 5.
This book reading is sponsored by Village Square Booksellers, Rockingham Library and Sustainable Rockingham. For more information, go to rockinghamlibrary.org, email programming@rockinghamlibrary.org or call (802) 463-4270.
