Next Sunday, August 8, between noon and 4pm, the White River Land Collaborative is hosting an Open Farm Week Event in Tunbridge.
Join us to learn about this new community land project at the former Merle Howe Farm/Chapman Farm. This celebration for all ages will include live music, local food and beverages for sale, guided farm tours, demonstrations and information tables, and activities.
Just as important, we would love you to bring your stories. We so appreciate the special significance of this farm (and it's twin across the lane) in the agricultural heritage of the First Branch Valley and we want to celebrate the history as we think about the future.
We will have a "Story Board" on the side of the barn during the Open Farm event and invite you to Post, the old-fashioned way, by writing on a sheet of paper a little bit of a story or memory about the place and people and tacking it up on the board... It could be something like " I remember sledding down the hill in kayaks and........." You can write as little or as much as you like, with your name and contact info or not (it might be fun to find out more about your story!). We will have pens and paper etc there... just want you to start thinking now... (sure, you can write something down ahead of time and just bring it.. that would be great as long as it doesn't sound like homework to you!)
The White River Land Collaborative is a farmer-led, community-driven initiative to increase land access and farm viability that includes your farming neighbors, Suzanne Long and Shona Sanford-Long.
More details about the event will be in next week's edition of the Herald, in more listserve notices and posted (that other new-fangled way) on the White River Land Collaborative Facebook page.
This event is free; no registration required. No dogs please.
Hope to see you there!
