The Burlington Branch of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Vermont International Film Festival, and Burlington City Arts are sponsoring A Day for Peace-Commemorating the Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan during World War II on Thursday August 5 from 1:00 PM-10:00 PM at Burlington City Hall Park, between College and Main Streets. The event will feature activities for children and adults, including painting for peace, origami crane making, sidewalk chalk drawing, a penny survey, the telling of the story Sadako, a child affected by leukemia, and an information and resource table. From 7:30 to 8:15 is a discussion on the risks and benefits of nuclear weapons with Dr. John Reuwer, MD. From 8:15 to 10:00 will be a screening of the movie Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. All events are free.
