On Friday Aug 6th from 3-7pm the Alice M. Ward Memorial Library at 27 Park Street in Cnaan, Vermont will host our Annual Book Sale (rain or shine) and in addition celebrate the Library's 90th birthday. The historic library building was built in 1846 by Fernando Jacobs as an Inn, or "stand". The building was sold in 1888 to physician Artemus Ward and later bequest to the town of Canaan as a public library after the death of his wife Alice in 1930, becoming the Library in August 1931. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its distinctive Neo-Palladian temple-form design.
Browse the book sale, make donations to the library, enjoy indoor tours, book browsing and more. The first 90 visitors after 3pm will enjoy a free birthday cupcake while supplies last. Be sure to stay that evening to enjoy the Grace Community Church 78th Annual Sugar on Snow Social in adjacent Fletcher Park, a sweet Canaan tradition. Join the fun.
