A Day for Peace to Remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki

The Burlington Branch of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), Vermont International Film Festival, and Burlington City Arts is sponsoring A Day for Peace—a Hiroshima and Nagasaki commemorative event on Thursday, August 5th from 1 to 10 PM at the City Hall Park between College St. and Main St. in Burlington, VT. The event will start at 1 pm, and there will be activities for children and adults, including painting for peace, origami crane folding, sidewalk chalk drawing, a penny spending survey, the telling of the Sadako story, and an information & resources table. These activities will be rotating until 7:30 PM, when there will then be a discussion on the risks and benefits of nuclear weapons and the possibilities for eliminating them, with Dr. John Reuwer until 8:15 PM. From 8:15–10:00 PM, there will be a screening of Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. All activities are free. See our event site on FB at: https://fb.me/e/19OGTWnii
