Onion River Chorus Concert

Past event
May 11, 2014, 7 to 9 PM

The Onion River Chorus, which features a good number of your East Montpelier neighbors, is presenting the world premiere performance of Burlington composer Don Jamison's "Raine Songs" (so called because the texts are by the British poet Kathleen Raine) on Sunday, May 11, 7:00 pm at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier.

Raine Songs is a terrific piece (I suspect a future award-winner): an exalted marriage of deep, passionate poetry and exquisite writing for voices. Mary Bonhag is the soprano soloist, and the string players are some of the best in Vermont. I will be conducting this piece, which is a real privilege and the closest experience I'll ever have to giving birth!

Also on the program are Czech baroque composer Jan Dismas Zelenka's "Miserere", and Georg Phillipp Telemann's "Singet dem Herrn". Larry Gordon, Onion River Chorus' Music Director, wil conduct both of these pieces.
