“Sweet” Reception at the T. W. Wood Gallery

Past event
Jul 10, 2021, 1 to 3 PM

What does it mean for a painting, or any other work of art, to be "sweet"? Is it a good thing? How has our taste changed and stayed constant over the past 125 years since the T.W. Wood Gallery's founding? The exhibition "Sweet" has its genesis in the genre paintings of Thomas Waterman Wood—including the newly acquired work, "In the Jelly Jar"—with the speculation that they may be too sweet for some contemporary viewers. Yet a quality of sweetness remains present, if transformed, in the art practice of six contemporary Vermont artists: Lois Eby, PJ Desrochers, Monica DiGiovanni, Deluxe Unlimited, Sam Talbot-Kelly, and Cheryl Betz. The works in Sweet present alternatives, critiques, and new tastes to sample and consider.

Join curator Glen Coburn Hutcheson and several of the artists for a gallery reception on Saturday July 10th, 1-3 PM, with a curator's discussion beginning at 2:00.

The T. W. Wood Gallery is at the Center for Arts and Learning, 46 Barre Street in Montpelier. Summer gallery hours are Thursday-Saturday, 12-4. For more information, visit the website at https://www.twwoodgallery.org/nuquist-gallery.html , email info@twwoodgallery.org, or call (802) 262-6035.
