Open Invitation: A Celebration of Life for Ursula Smith

Past event
Jul 11, 2021, 4 PM

All are invited to a Celebration of Life for Ursula Smith on Sunday, July 11, at 4 p.m. in Mineral Springs Park down in the village. We chose this venue for the sensory experience of all creation that it provides. You cross the bridge over North Brook and enter a place filled with trees, birds, and the sounds of rushing waters

Feel free to arrive a little early and wander the Park...perhaps bringing a flower to drop into the water while thinking of Ursula's life and the lives of others who are no longer with us. North Brook merges with the Poultney River at one place in the park, and the symbolism of letting go and allowing life to take one into eternity is apparent there.

We'll start with the music of recorder and flute, weave in poetry and other readings that were helpful to the two of us on this last leg of Ursula's earthly journey, and there will be singing, a chance for attendees to offer a memory or thought, then the "breaking of bread," with finger foods, tea, water, and lemonade available to enjoy as guests mingle and talk to each other and to me.

I'd suggest bringing lawn chairs and maybe a hiking stick or cane. Please, no dogs…and no babies and toddlers—as much as Ursula loved both!

PARKING will be available in the lot next to the Post Office, and if you need to drive to the Park itself and have someone take your car back to the lot, folks will be on hand to do that.

BODILY COMFORTS: Much of the park will be in shade by that time in the afternoon, but please remember to hydrate. A port-o-potty, with hand sanitizer, will be on site. Though masks are not required in this outdoor setting, we recommend following your own instincts, plus state guidelines, when deciding whether to mask.

WEATHER CONCERNS: There will be no tents or rain shelters, so watch the weather. Since the park is central to this Celebration, moving indoors isn't feasible. Scheduled start time of 4 p.m. might be delayed in case of a sizeable shower…but short of a dangerous thunderstorm, the event will proceed as planned.

I look forward to seeing you on the 11th!

Linda
