Community Hike Series at City Center Park
Topic: Insect & Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Hike
Date: July 24th
Time: 9 AM
Location: City Center Park
Led by Declan McCabe & Janel Roberge from Saint Michael's College
Declan McCabe and Janel Roberge from Saint Michael's College will offer an insect and aquatic macroinvertebrate walk in City Center Park. The walk will include exploration of the habitats available to the invertebrates that are essential in the park's food web and how to improve your own back yard as habitat for pollinators, detritivores, and the birds that critically depend upon them.
Following the walk, we will provide microscope access and devote some time to identifying your "catch of the day" before returning our fellow travelers to the woods where they belong. Although smartphones are not required, if you have one, please install the iNaturalist app and you can contribute your observations to the larger effort of documenting biological diversity in South Burlington.
The trails in City Center Park are quite flat and portions are paved; this wheelchair-accessible event will be sponsored by Vermont EPSCoR.
Capacity is limited for this event and registration will be required to participate. Anyone that does not register will not be allowed to participate in the event the day of.
If you have questions about this event or would like to register, please contact Ashley Parker at: aparker@sburl.com.
