Relocalizing VT: Local Issues in Veto Session

Past event
Jun 24, 2021, 9 to 10:30 AM

Thursday morning on Goddard College Community Radio: The legislature is back in session briefly, and we look at local issues they're discussing.

9:00 - 10:00 am
Montpelier and Winooski voted to change their charters to allow non-citizens to vote. Gov. Phil Scott vetoed those charter changes. Montpelier Mayor Anne Watson will talk about why it's important to let non-citizens have a vote.

The Senate will have a chance to advance S.79, a bill that would transfer rental housing authority from local health officers to the state. The Vermont League of Cities and Towns, often an advocate for local control, approves this change of authority. Karen Horn of VLCT will talk about why.

10:00 - 10:30 am
Resilience Thoughts, a locally told Extempo story, and more.
