SAVE THE DATE. Please Join us, next Saturday (6/26) at 4:00PM for the first 2021 Curtis Pond Associate (CPA) meeting held at the Maple Corner Community Center. CPA meetings are open to anyone in the vicinity who knows, loves, and wants to be a part of the future of Curtis Pond (you don't have to be a pond front land owner to join!)
We will be discussing the many threats facing our pond and dam and the concrete actions we are taking to address them. Real life threats require real life actions. First define the threats…..beavers, water, weather, climate change, erosion, gravity, age and INACTION. THE TIME IS NOW. Let's get together and talk amongst ourselves to ensure we can get ahead of the issues before it's too late.
There will be a brief presentation then Q&A and discussion with the Dam Exploratory Group that has been working hard since last summer, fueled by pent up pandemic energy. Do your homework and come with questions. Go to our website, www.curtispond.org and browse through the Curtis Dam page as well as the Exploratory Group page. Lots of information there for those interested. We will present a summary of the history and an outline of our current work. Losing the Dam would be unthinkable, yet it is a real threat and fixing it is totally doable.
While the Dam may take up the bulk of the meeting, we'll also delve onto the more immediate threat of beavers blocking the spillway and what to do NOW, tomorrow, this summer. The Curtis Dam benefits us all and we are all responsible for it's future. The labor associated with maintaining it can't be left to a handful of people who live the closest - many hands make light work, so let's come up with a plan.
If you love Curtis Pond, please join us and tell your neighbors. We hope to see many of you Saturday.
Sincerely,
Jamie & Colleen - on behalf of the Curtis Pond Association
