Bread from scratch
06/27/2021
12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
at Rise Up Bakery, 48 Granite Street, Barre, VermontBread
It seems like more and more people would like to learn a craft that is useful and that can later be passed on to their children and grandchildren. There is a lot of interest in baking bread with ingredients that you always have in your kitchen: flour, salt, dry yeast and water. The aroma of fresh homemade bread is very inviting and warming, and will always be a treat for your family and friends.
This workshop given by Rise Up Bakery baker Jim Haas will be a good source of knowledge for amateur and aspiring bakers
What you will learn:
– Flours, and how they differ
– Yeasted vs sourdough bread
– Bakers's math
– Making "straight dough" breads
– Dough fermentation
– Kneading
– Pre-shaping, bench rest, final form
– Scoring (slashing) loaves: how and why
– Equipment/accessories needed for home bread baking
– Storing
All ingredients are provided by the bakery.
Every person will leave with their own baked loaf of bread and lots of knowledge to practice at home.
Registration and 100% prepayment is required at:
