From the Hartland Board of Listers:
NOTICE AND WARNING TO TAXPAYERS OF 2021 GRIEVANCE HEARINGS

The Listers will meet at Damon Hall on Friday June 18th, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from day to day thereafter until all questions and objections are heard. These grievance hearings can be accessed remotely through live video and phone conference and will be recorded. The link to this Microsoft Teams meeting is https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19:meeting_ZTY1MzY1NTYtNDE4Ni00NWRlLWFiYjItYjQxZWY[...]22}.

The purpose of this meeting is to hear the grievances of persons, co-partnerships, associations, or corporations aggrieved by their appraisal or by any of the listers' actions. Any taxpayer can grieve their assessment in any year. All grievances must be in writing and submitted to the Listers by June 18, 2021. Grievance applications can be picked up at the town hall from the Listers' office or Town Clerk's office; found by link on the Listers' web page at the Town website; or have a copy emailed or mailed to them by request. Completed applications and written grievances can be submitted via: email to assessment@hartlandvt.org or dropped off at the Town Hall during business hours, or deposited in the Town Drop box in front of Damon Hall, or mailed via postal service. Postmarks of June 18th will be accepted. Please mark envelope with "Attn: Listers".

Property owners may conduct their grievance solely in writing but can also attend a remote video or phone hearing to present their case. Owners will need to provide an email address or phone number when they submit their written grievance and supporting documents if they want to participate in a remote hearing. The Listers will contact the property owner(s) with a scheduled grievance time and information on how to access their hearing. Note: Grievers must be the owner(s) of record as of April 1st but can assign a new owner or other agent to be their representative. A signed statement from the owner of record that grants the representative permission to grieve must be provided at the time of the grievance hearing.

These quasi-judicial property assessment appeals (grievance hearings) are open to the public. And although anyone from the public can attend, no comments will be taken during the hearings except from representatives of the grieving party. Anyone wishing to attend, can contact the Listers to get the information to attend the hearings or use the link posted above. The meeting link will also be posted on the Hartland Listers' webpage. The hearings will be recorded and then made available to the public after the adjournment of the Grievance hearings. More information on how to access those recordings will be included with the Grievance Hearing Minutes.

If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We can be reached by email at assessment@hartlandvt.org or by phone at (802) 436-4292.

The Listers' Office will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 16th and Thursday June 17th. Please note that on Friday, June 18th, the Listers will NOT be answering the phone during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. due to the ongoing Grievance hearings. We will be checking our phone messages and emails during the noon lunch hour and again at the end of the day on Friday.
