Performed on the Summer Solstice. Participants take tobacco leaves, kinnikinnick etcetera, place them in a small bag and breath or sing their good wishes into them for the year, the small bags are placed in a fire. An arrow is lit from the flame. The arrow is then shot towards the Sun to carry those good wishes to the sky people. Come and learn more about this ceremony at the Vermont Indigenous Heritage Center at Ethan Allen Homestead. All are welcome and some materials are provided. Please arrive no later than 12:00 noon as the arrow must be released at solar noon, which is 12:54pm in Burlington. Out of respect for the traditional beliefs of the Abenakis, no photography of the actual ceremony is permitted but other photo opportunities will be available.
