Green Up Day This Saturday, May 3rd! Pick Up Bags 9-11am at Town Green

The first Green Up Day was launched by Governor Deane Davis in 1970 in reaction to the atrocious amount of litter on the roads and highways. Since that time, thousands of Vermonters of all ages and walks of life have come together on the first Saturday in May to clean up their communities by picking up litter from roadsides, waterways, woods and public areas. This is just a very small history of Green Up Day in case you are new to the area, have never heard of it, or have but just never participated.

It has been a tradition for the past 14 years for the Beeman students, teachers and available parents to go out and Green Up as a school the Monday before Green Up Day. This Monday the School went out and "Greened Up" around the school, surrounding roads and the Town Green. Thank You Beeman, for getting us started!

We look forward to seeing you all again this year, with hopefully some new faces and helping hands! Please come over to the Town Green between 9am and 11am on Saturday May 3rd to pick up FREE Green Up Bags, gloves, water, safety tip, sun screen, bug spray and to register on the Town Road Map for a road or area to Green Up.

Our Road Crew will be out picking up Green Up Bags from every road to take to the Transfer Station on Monday, May 5th. Please make sure to leave the bags where you left off, tied shut and placed just off the side of the road. Just to clarify, NO furniture will be accepted as "Green Up" waste. If you "haul it out of the woods," you must dispose of it yourself. Likewise, only waste in a bright green "Green Up" bag will be accepted as Green Up waste. Any tires, batteries, or awkward pieces that you find can be placed on the side of the road with your (full) Green Up bag. Please do not try to haul big or dangerous pieces out to the road. Please call me to report dumping sites, hypodermic needles, or animal carcasses. The Health Department would like us to remind everyone to be dressed for the occasion. That means cover up and wear closed toe shoes. Tick season is upon us. Please check to make sure you are tick-free after Greening Up.
I hope to see you on the Town Green between 9am & 11am on Saturday May 3rd.

Thanks for doing your part to help keep Vermont clean and green!
