Weds Night 7 Pm
Do you ever find yourself asking "why do they think that?" or "I can't understand what they're talking about" or "I assume they are thinking...." when faced with a political or cultural opinion that differs from your own? If so, you might want to learn about Braver Angels (BA).
BA is a non-partisan organization designed to help people listen to each other respectfully. It's not about imposing one view or educating people who disagree with you, it's about listening and learning to live peacefully with those you disagree with. To start a chapter, there need to be an equal number of Reds (Republicans, Conservatives, Libertarians) and Blues (Democrats, Greens, Socialists) who are willing to work together to get trained in facilitation of discussions and launch a chapter. Purples (Independents who lean right sometimes and left other times) are also very welcome. Newfane has several Reds eager to start this sometimes difficult and always meaningful work. We are happy to have more Reds, and we need Blues willing to engage in listening.
One of the oldest BA chapters in the US was founded in Franklin County, VT and they are offering a free one-hour virtual introduction to their work and the work of Braver Angels National on Wednesday, June 16 from 7 to 8pm. The people from Franklin Co. are able to mentor us if we start a chapter here.
If you'd like to learn more, please register for the online event. And then if you'd like to explore starting a chapter (especially if you're a Blue who wants to coexist peaceful with your Red neighbors), please email me eiwalch@verizon.net or call 365-4265 Your desire to engage civilly with people who may have different worldviews is the only requirement.
